Disney Day

This weekend I was invited to go to Disney’s Magic Kingdom with Kelly (Living the Before) and we had such a great time! We had an action-packed day in which we:

Met Mickey! He talked, hugged us, and told us about some hitch-hiking ghosts to watch out for. Even met Daisy and Minnie too!

Had a drink and lunch at The Wave in Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The guys met us there and then we went our own way back to the Magic Kingdom.

Watched the Festival of Fantasy Parade and it was SO COOL! Got to see Belle and the Beast, Cinderella, Anna and Elsa, Tiana, Rapunzel, Ariel, Peter Pan, Wendy, Tinkerbell, and so many others. Best of all was the Maleficent Dragon! She blows fire but unfortunately, we didn’t get to see that.

Went on Haunted Mansion, my favorite Disney ride of all time…

We twirled around on the Mad Hatter Tea Party, rode Space Mountain (got to ride in the front!), zipped around Thunder Mountain (always a good time), went to the Monsters Inc Laugh Factory, rode around on the Peoplemover… even went to Enchanted Tales with Belle… so stinkin’ cute! You go into Maurice’s workshop, see the talking Wardrobe, and then you sit in Belle’s library with Lumiere and Belle! Obviously for kids but it was a cute, interactive experience:

Of course we snacked… got a lemon slushie (which turned out to be pure ice and was a waste of $4), corndog, iced latte, and a churro. I always get a churro when I’m at Disney! We even did a little light shopping… a Haunted Mansion magnet to add to my “places I have been” magnet collection and three blind mini-figure packs…

We stayed until the fireworks and then called it a day. It was a really fun day with Kelly. It’s crazy to think that this was the first time we’ve spent an ENTIRE day together. She was good company and a good Disney partner 🙂 Thank you so much, Kelly, for the Disney Day!

Good-bye, Spring Break 2014

Today marks the final day of Spring Break and we must return to work tomorrow. I am glad to have had my very first PAID Spring Break as a full-time employee for the college I work at but I am very sad that it is over. In the hopes of ending this evening on a high note, I thought I’d recap my week off…

Saturday, March 1st:

Spring Break formally kicked off with a trip to the dog park with T and Zelda. There were plenty of dogs running around in the small dog side, but I think Zelda enjoyed the car ride and the walk better than the park. On the ride home her tongue was practically falling out of mouth… it’s such a cute look, we know:

Monday, March 3rd:

T and I had a couples dental cleaning appointment. It wasn’t too bad… LOVE the fact they give us nitrous even if we have to pay for it out of pocket. The dentist appointment was then followed by brunch at Denny’s. What better way to wash away the clean feeling better than with an Original Grand Slam?

The afternoon was dedicated to getting my highlights retouched at the Aveda Institute. The students at Aveda do a good job, for the most part, and I think my highlights came out well this time. I love having various shades of red, copper, and honey tones. I like Aveda because everyone there is always friendly and the prices are reasonable; my highlight retouch was $47 before tip. The main thing I HATE is having to sit in the chair for so long… but I suppose that part is unavoidable no matter where you go.

Wednesday, March 5th:

I put together the Lego Mini Modular set that I had purchased back in October or so. It was fun to put together five teenie tiny houses. I sure do hope they release another Mini Modular set in the future. The next set I’m lusting after is the Lego Parisian Restaurant set. At $149.99, I think that one will have to wait awhile.

IMG_20140309_070116That afternoon I met up with a friend at Olive Garden for breadsticks and salad… but we mostly just ate the breadsticks. That’s our go-to place and it was nice to see her since it had been a while since we last got together.

I also did some spring cleaning and finally hung up a picture I had purchased at Kohl’s months ago for a mere $10 (it was 50% off the original price plus I had $10 in Kohl’s cash AND a 20% off coupon.. BA-BAM!). I also got a new lampshade. It’s funny how changing something so minor can feel like a big difference has been made.

That evening I also won two packages of popcorn from a local gourmet popcorn place by answering their Facebook Tuesday Trivia question correct. The owner even dropped the prize off directly at my front door an hour later, which was pretty cool. The popcorn was good, even WITH the glitter. Yes, glitter!

Thursday, March 6th:

I had purchased a new Coach purse online and was really disappointed when I received it because it wouldn’t fit on my shoulder. The print was beautiful and it was such a shame I had to exchange it but there was no way I’d ever use it since I like my shoulder purses too much. So, I ventured out to the Coach Factory outlet store to exchange it and was glad that there was something else I liked. While not as lovely as the purse I returned, it was a good deal and I even got some money back.

Friday, March 7th:

Went to lunch with T to our favorite place, Pio Pio (Colombian, Peruvian, and Cuban cuisine). We always get the same thing when we go there… breaded chicken meal with beans, rice, plantains and lots and lots of their white sauce. Make no mistake, the white sauce is where it’s at.

Sunday, March 9th:

Took Zelda for a walk at the park on the end of our street. I really should go there more because it’s peaceful and lovely. This morning, it was cool and particularly picturesque:

T and I had a late lunch at Little Saigon. The food was delicious as always and the Thai teas were no exception:

Overall, this week has been low-key and relaxing. I had a chance to do some cleaning and organizing, got to eat some yummy food, and also got to lounge around and be lazy with Zelda. Oh, yeah… and read! I got to do lots of reading too…

Sad to see Spring Break go but I look forward to it next year. Next awesome break to look forward to… half-day Fridays!
